Teething…Tools to ease this time.

Teething is a transformation time, which means it can be stressful for parent and child a like. That’s why I formulated my teething tea with herbs that not only address whats actually happening, but also the nervous system. Its a tea that mom and baby can enjoy and be soothed! It can be used so many ways too! A teething rag for baby to chew on, a sitz or regular bath, as a cup of tea, as ice cubes, added to formula, it can be turned into an herbal infused oil! You can really get creative here! I also love using the food feeders/ teething tools where you can slowly introduce solid foods to make a frozen teething treat…but you don’t need anything fancy a clean soft preferably natural material cloth can be dipped in the tea and frozen for baby to chew on!

Herbal Teething Rag

Brew a cup of your Teething Tea blend, pouring hot water over the herbs and covering the cup while it steeps for 5–10 minutes. Keeping the tea covered helps preserve the delicate aromatic compounds in the herbs.

Allow the tea to cool completely to room temperature before using. If preferred, cold breast milk can also be used for a similarly soothing effect.

Dip a clean, soft washcloth into the tea until it is fully saturated but not dripping. Be sure the cloth has been washed without fabric softener, fragrances, or other synthetic additives, as these residues can transfer into the baby’s mouth. Simple, clean cotton cloths washed with gentle, natural soap are best.

Gently twist or tie the cloth into a knot to create texture that little hands can hold and tender gums can press against.

Place the cloth in a freezer-safe bag and freeze for 30–60 minutes, until it becomes cool and firm.

When ready, offer the chilled cloth for the baby to chew and gnaw on, allowing the cool temperature and gentle herbal infusion to help soothe tender teething gums.

Steeping Instructions:

For Adults 1 TBSP/ 8oz Water steep 15-20 minutes

For Children 1tsp-8oz water steep 5-10 minutes

For Infants add 1/2c of tea to their bath or give very small amounts ½ tsp- 1tsp 3-4x/ day of children's steeping strength.

Keep in mind if the mother is drinking the tea and breast feeding the child will receive some herbal benefits this way as well.

I personally like Moss & Fawn’s Forage Baby Food Feeder and it comes in lots of cute colors. It’s what I gift for baby showers with my tea for two and teething tea. I am not affiliated with them at all.

Here are the herbs I use in my teething tea and why I like them!

Chamomile (Matricaria recutita)- eye gunk, tummy aches, diaper rashes, calming

Catnip (Nepeta cataria)- tummy aches, overstimulation, fever, it also draws down and out which I really like for tummy issues even for adults! It makes a great enema.

Lavender (Lavandula spp.)- diaper rashes, skin rashes, calming

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) - uncomplicated coughs, colds, tummy aches, overstimulation, fever

Oatstraw (Avena sativa) - calming, nourishing

As always none of these statements have been approved by the FDA. Use your best judgement as a parent you know your child and when its time for medical intervention especially if fevers get too high. Use these plant medicines for yourself too! It’s the best way to learn!
